With her solo exhibition “Bodies in Flow”, photographer Anthi Kollia participates in Photovision Art 2025. This photographic work explores the world of water and its connection with the human body. Through underwater imagery, she captures moments of inner serenity, play, and movement, offering a new perspective on corporeality and the experience of immersion.
Bodies in Flow: Article by Takis Tzimas, in “Photographer” magazine
With these words, Anthi Kollia introduces her new work to the Athenian public and beyond, guiding us into the sources of inspiration that led to its realization.
It is true that the unique nature of the marine environment – with its buoyancy, the colors beneath the surface, and the distinctive movements of floating, half-submerged bodies – offers an unparalleled spectacle. Long before drones entered our lives, revealing the world from new and unexpected angles, the sight of naked and semi-naked bodies suspended in water had already stirred the imagination and creativity of photographers. No one can deny the sensuality quietly revealed by these slowly drifting forms – a quality that many photographers have drawn upon in fashion, nude, glamour, and even portrait photography.
The natural environment beneath the surface of the water provides a uniform background, cool colours that contrast with the warm colours of the skin, creating a pleasant contrast and awe for the vastness and beauty of nature. All these elements of sensuality and “calm seduction”, even if Anthi Kollia does not confess it, we think they were the driving force that pushed her to create her recent work, both in volume and quality.
At first glance, her photographs may appear to show simple snapshots of bathers, but the deeper reason for her approach is the sea and specifically the seabed in whose embrace human bodies of all ages and genders surrender slowly and lazily, quietly and with only the sound of the splashing of the dive and the waves.
After the first impression and this first and spontaneous mass photographic recording, we expect her next series, next summer to focus without fear but with great passion on “selected” bodies, on those that the allure of the sea and the libido guide her!
